Quartz Hill Farm Arabians - Owners: Ally and Ray HudsonAlly and Ray

Our Stud is set on 40 lush acres in the Bungendore district, just 25 minutes from Canberra city and an easy 2 ½ hours drive from Sydney .

Together we have been involved with horses for over 30 years. In the past I enjoyed riding very much and had some exciting times on my Arabians, including winning a Tom Quilty Endurance Ride buckle amongst others, and playing A Grade Polocrosse on my purebred gelding, Santarabia Ramah

In the last few years, we have expanded the Stud and concentrated more on breeding and showing, rather than riding.

Ray really enjoys showing the horses at halter. He has rapidly learned how much skill this requires. One of his biggest thrills was when he showed our home bred filly, Quartz Hill Farm Luv in the Mist, to win Reserve Champion Yearling Filly at the 1998 East Coast Arabian Show.

These days, my part of the partnership, is to concentrate on feeding and conditioning our horses.

El Shaklan was the dream horse upon whom the Stud was founded, and he appears in the pedigrees of all the horses at Quartz Hill Farm. The blood of his son, Simeon Sa’ar has been blended with that of Amir El Shaklan, together with their sons, Simeon Sanegor, Eastwinds Axplosion and Fairview Exclusive.

We believe the strength of a Stud lies in its broodmares and have concentrated on gathering a group of high quality females with excellent pedigrees, whom we treasure. The mares, through El Shaklan, are predominantly of Egyptian and Spanish blood and some of them also carry a percentage of Crabbet bloodlines.

Special mention must be made of our foundation mare, Stilton Farm Egyptian Mirage, purchased as a yearling for her beauty, her pedigree and her movement. She has now excelled as a broodmare and founded her own dynasty at our Stud. She was a AA Class Show Champion in her youth and now is the dam of Quartz Hill Farm Luv in the Mist, and Quartz Hill Farm Luv Me Too. Both these full sisters have been awarded the title of East Coast Reserve Champion Yearling Filly, in 1998 and 2002, and both have been Australian National Top Ten females, amongst many other prestigious awards.

We appreciate that Arabians should be able to be ridden, in addition to being a pretty halter horse, and are endeavouring to breed beautiful, sound and functional Arabians who are horsemens’ horses. Above all they must possess that ethereal, magical, Arabian type.

The Stud has evolved with quiet determination and dedication and is now proud to be the home of two East Coast Reserve Champion Yearling Fillies, one East Coast Reserve Champion Yearling Colt, one East Coast Champion Filly, two East Coast Top Five Mares, one Reserve Australian National Champion Filly, multiple Australian National Top Ten Females and one Australian National Top Ten Colt . For the future, we hope to keep breeding more of these beautiful Arabians.
